Hjelte on Earth

https://i2.wp.com/farm4.static.flickr.com/3539/3548394406_b87348b604.jpgLocated off a dusty trail in Encino and nearly hidden from view from all angles, except for the tops of the light towers visible just off the 101 at Hayvenhurst, you’ll find Hjelte Sports Center. One of the Valley’s true gems for those looking to break a sweat and compete, Hjelte features four well-lit softball diamonds and ample room for both futbol AND football.  The parking lot is hidden just east of Hayvenhurst, and protects the park from typical Valley riff-raff. Basically, when you’re there – you’re amongst trees, and feel very isolated. . .or at least as isolated as one can feel in the Valley.

Hjelte Sports Center is named after George Hjelte, longtime general manager of the city’s https://i0.wp.com/sepulvedabasinwildlife.org/images/Encino%20Creek%20Trees.jpgRecreation and Parks Department. Not quite a legend, but believe me you when I say that Mr. Hjelte would be very proud to see his clean, well-kempt facilities utilized for not only sporting endeavors, butserving as the backdrop for many Hollywood shoots, including Iron Man 2, several episodes of 24 and the title sequence in Knight Rider.

In addition, Hjelte was utilized as the official venue for both Archery and Softball in the 1991 Olympic Festival. Not bad for a small little Valley facility.
